Why was Tutbury Civic Society set up?

To encourage high standards of architecture and town planning in Tutbury

The above objectives are pursued by the society by means of meetings, exhibitions, lectures, publications and promotion of schemes of a charitable nature.

What does the society actually do?

The answer is quite a lot. The society’s activities include the following:

We publish Tutbury Village News - bi monthly

We publish the Tutbury Guide

We plant trees and bulbs in the village

We maintain the village notice board

We award an enhancement shield annually to local businesses which have helped to improve the
appearance of the conservation area.

We work jointly with the Parish Council in organising the best kept village competition

The village notice board was erected after Tutbury was marked down in the best kept village competition for having too many notices cluttering shop windows. The notice board was refurbished in 1997.
