The meeting was opened by Tutbury Parish Chair (TPC), Miss Maria Guest, who explained that the meeting was an exploratory meeting for TPC to gauge the feeling amongst residents about the future use of Tutbury’s five bus shelters (Burton Street, Duke Street, Holts Lane, High Street, Park Lane).
Residents living nearby to Bus Shelters have, for some time, become concerned about groups of young people congregating in and around bus shelters.
The meeting was attended by 12 parishioners, Cllr W Crossley, Cllr T Spencer-Smith and TPC Clerk, Steve Powell. Apologies received from Cllr Dave Kennedy.
2.0 Comments from the floor
A spokesperson for Tutbury Residents Association advised that elderly residents feel intimidated by groups of youths in bus stops particularly after dark.
It was also felt that there is an issue over enforcement of existing laws. TPC advised that they had been approached some time ago to contribute to a joint funding scheme for a Community Warden - in conjunction with nearby Stretton. The floor heard that this would mean TPC virtually doubling it’s rate to gain (on average) “half a community warden”.
Concerns were raised, from the floor, over environmental health as regards the build up of litter in bus shelters.
Present at the meeting was a local licensee who gave an example of eggs being thrown at a motorcyclist recently from a nearby bus shelter.
