Oct 08 meeting: We’re a Handy Lot!

Our meeting on Thursday 9th October was a DIY affair, with members sharing their skills and having fun making things.

We have some very talented people in our W.I.,
especially when it comes to crafts and everyone was soon engrossed in their chosen activity.

The encaustic art table was as popular as ever and it was fascinating to see the fluid lines and shapes that appeared from the hot wax.

The competition for the Apple Tree Group meeting in October is a Venetian Mask and we had fun making some very stylish creations. We were able to select some terrific entries from Tutbury to take to the group meeting

People on the card table got stuck in straight away and produced some star efforts, with different themes and ideas. It’s amazing how much can be achieved in just two hours.

The lucky winners took home a box of chocolates each but we all enjoyed the chance to have a go at crafts we would never normally try.

While the craft groups were producing their efforts, three of us designed a banner for Tutbury W.I. We were so pleased with our efforts with the Music festival banner that we felt we wanted one of our own and we managed to come up with a design that will give us a great needlework project over the next few months.

Other members showed their skills with a range of very tasty sandwiches and all that craft work certainly gave us an appetite!

Our condolences go to the family of Val Chapman. We were very saddened to hear of her sudden death. Val was our valued friend and a stalwart of the W.I. We will miss her and our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.

The next meeting is on Thursday 13th November at 7.30 p.m. We are holding our AGM so please come along and help us select our committee. In the second half of the evening we will look at Tutbury history – how much do you really know about the place?

We always welcome visitors, so come to the Village Hall between 7 and 7.30 p.m. or contact our secretary, Carol Hall, on 01283 813161 or visit www.tutbury.org/wi
