On the Morning of 27 November 1944, Fauld near Tutbury was the scene of the biggest explosion ever seen in Britain. |
|
An underground ammunition dump, operated by the RAF exploded. The explosion created a crater half a mile wide and 400 ft deep. The explosion was an official secret for thirty years, until 27 November 1974 when the “gagging order” was lifted. |
