Summer Trip to

This year our summer outing is to the ancient town of Ludlow, which was founded over 900 years ago and where the grid pattern of streets reflects its history. There are many ancient and interesting buildings in the town.

Ludlow Town & Castle

Sat 11 July 2009

The feathers Hotel is perhaps one of the best known. The Museum and Library are well worth a visit, as is St Laurences Church. Dominating the town is the Castle, which was founded in the 11th Century and was very important in defending the Marshes from Welsh invaders. Henry VIII’s older brother, Prince Arthur lived in the castle when Prince of Wales, as did King Edward V and it is thought that Mary Tudor spent some time there as well.

The cost of the trip will be:

£18 return for the coach, plus
£4 entry to the castle for Senior Citizens, £4.50 for all others.

Total Cost:

£22.50 per person

£22.00 per senior citizen

The coach will be leaving Duke Street Car Park, Tutbury at 8.30 AM and we will be returning at approximately 7.00 PM. Non members are very welcome to join the trip.

If you would like to join us on this interesting day out, please download the booking form and return it complete with cheque (made payable to Tutbury Civic Society) to Tutbury Civic Society, Tutbury Museum & Information Centre, Duke Street, Tutbury, DE13 9NE.
Payment needs to reach us no later than Mon 29 June 2009.

In recent years the Tutbury Civic Society has managed Park Pale Recovery Project. Tutbury Heritage Walk is now officially open.

Park Pale Recovery Project

Officially opened

11 March 2009

The walk was opened at 11:00 AM, 11 March 2009, by East Staffordshire Borough Council Mayor (2008/09) - Liz Staples.

The opening ceremony brought to a conclusion the Tutbury Park Pale Recovery Project which was managed by Tutbury Civic Society and paid for by The Heritage Lottery Fund.

The objective of the project was to clear the scheduled ancient monuments of overgrown vegetation so that a non-invasive archaeological survey could take place, enabling their size and setting in the landscape to be appreciated, and to provide a circular heritage walk of the village.
