Update - 15 August 06 |
Tutbury teens are a step closer to a youth facility thanks to a recent survey carried out by East Staffordshire Borough Council, in partnership with Staffordshire County Councils Youth Service. |
The Councils Parks and Countryside department asked for opinions from all households in Tutbury in the recent Tutbury Teen Campaign survey and 94% of respondents were in favour of an outdoor youth facility in the village. More than 60% of respondents wanted a mixture of dynamic teen play equipment, a youth shelter and small scale skate ramps. |
The overriding choice for location was Cornmill Lane, followed by Tutbury Mill, with Ferrers Avenue playing field third and The Park Pale fourth. The Council will concentrate its efforts on funding and building a facility on the Tutbury Mill site as the Cornmill Lane site is in Parish Council control and is not available for development at this time. |
The Council will work with other partners including: Staffordshire County Councils Youth Service, Community Safety Partnership and the Police on issues such as antisocial behaviour. The Councils Parks and Countryside team will maintain the site. |
East Staffordshire Borough Council and the Youth Service will set up a user group of young people and residents to help steer the funding and development of the facility. Many interested residents gave their details on the survey and will be contacted in the coming weeks. |
Cllr Elizabeth Staples, Ward member for Tutbury and Outwoods, said: I am delighted with the response we have had from the survey. It shows Tutbury residents appreciate the work that the Tutbury Teen Campaign has done so far. We hope to build a facility to be proud of, with the help of young people and residents. |
Cllr Trevor Hathaway, Ward member for Tutbury and Outwoods, added: Knowing we have the support of local people means we can go ahead with the next stage of the project and work towards a facility at the Tutbury Mill site for all young people in the village. |
Should you want to join the user group or would like further details on the project please contact Parks and Countryside on 01283 508724. |
